Whether parent, pupil, ex-pupil or merely someone making contact with Kensington for the first time, we hope this website enables you to be better acquainted with Kensington School , its origins, organisation, curriculum, facilities, in addition to much else that follows. We should like, however, in the first place to explain the philosophy that guides Kensington School, the essence of which is expressed in the following.
As teachers we have chosen a fulfilling profession: that of opening up the path to knowledge, the foundation of all human freedom. As educationalists we would wish to transcend a purely functional view of education to attain what is obviously its principal objective, to provide pupils with the freedom of thought, judgement , feeling and imagination that they need to fully realise their potential and to continue being, if possible, architects of their own destiny.
We subscribe wholly to the sentiments of Pierre Faure when he claims that “to educate today is to free human beings such that they recover their capacity to use their initiative on behalf of their own education and progress. It is, fundamentally, to teach human beings the art of living, loving and working in a society which they are destined to create as an image of their ideal”.
