EXCLUSIVE KENSINGTON: A CURRICULUM THAT GUARANTEES THE TWO LANGUAGES

BRITISH CURRICULUM PLUS SPANISH

Our curriculum is exclusive, complete and effective, combining the best of the British system with the best of the Spanish system.  Pupils study the English National Curriculum from Pre-Nursery to Year 9, with two subjects ( Spanish Language and Social Studies ) taught in Spanish. From Year 10 of Secondary to Year 13 of the Baccalaureate we follow the Spanish curriculum, although pupils continue to study English and French intensively with native teachers, obtaining official, internationally-recognised qualifications. When they complete their secondary education they are able to work fluently in three languages and meet the requirements to study in any university in Spain or overseas.

VAST EXPERIENCE WHICH DRIVES US TOWARDS THE FUTURE

KEEP GROWING!

We were founded in 1968. We were, and still are, one of the pioneer centres of British education in Spain.  Since then we have established a programme of education with roots in tradition that continues to generate strong results today: inclusive Maths, short teaching periods, a powerful emphasis on Public Speaking and learning through drama, a strong education in computer programming… This deep experience helps us foster the education of the future at Kensington School : seeking out the best teachers and methodologies in line with our principles so that our children can grow as well-rounded citizens, shapers and movers of the 21st century.

WELL-ROUNDED EDUCATION BASED ON UNIVERSAL VALUES

HOLISTIC EDUCATION

We work to offer our children a holistic education based on core universal values.  We teach skills and attitudes : empathy, team spirit, the ability to set and work toward goals, resilience in the face of adversity, the ability to defend a point of view in public.

Our children learn respect, understanding, empathy, a sense of commitment, joy in their work, austerity and realism.  We teach skills such as sport and healthcare, creativity through art, music and computing, a strong technical education…. A holistic and well-balanced education so our students can live life to the full.

SOCIAL EDUCATION AND DISCIPLINE

Within PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education), we work through the new ICARE programme: the English acronym for values of Integrity, Cooperation, Acceptance, Respect and Empathy.  This programme is based on a set of core values that make up Kensington School’s mission statement of aspirations and values. In addition, in Year 7-9 students study the English National Curriculum subject of Citizenship, which deals with issues such as democracy, gender equality, tolerance, alcohol and drugs education… An education in values supported in turn by our School Psychologists and our Computing Department with workshops on coexistence, good behaviour, online safety and responsible use of social networks.

Kensington School is committed to guaranteeing student safety in our school and our activities, and to look after pupils’ welfare in general.  All staff share this responsibility, with clear protocols for monitoring attendance and punctuality to lessons, following the rules of friendly co-existence and a proactive approach to looking after the playground.  The Heads of Pastoral are responsible for student welfare, and they act as a communication link between form tutors, Heads of Department and the School Psychologists. Through this constructive and effective flow of communication, the Deputy Head and the Head Teacher are well-informed and manage any circumstance that may arise.

As a staff, we work to establish a positive school environment and encourage our children’s self-confidence.  However, in the life of any school community conflicts can always arise.  We help students to reflect on these disagreements through roleplay (using drama and improvisation to explore solutions to a problem that has occurred), through conversation and written reflection, and through interventions encouraging empathy, taking responsibility for our words and actions, recognising limits, and finding positive solutions to problems.

CHARITY EXPERIENCES FOR STUDENTS, PARENTS AND TEACHERS

COMMITMENT & SOLIDARITY

The excellence of Kensington School only makes sense if it bears fruit in terms of solidarity, a spirit of tolerance and commitment to others. For this reason, we organise activities throughout the year where pupils, along with their parents, can nurture these core values. The sponsorship each year of children in India through the Fundación Vicente Ferrer, our status as a Unicef partner school, collection of food, books, toys and clothing for the Salvation Army food banks, the Spring Fête, charity concerts… These are crucial moments in the lives of our students.  And we grow more each year, encouraging their generosity, creating new experiences such as the Values Prize (an academic scholarship), opting to do voluntary work in sixth form.. We should not rest here : commitment to others should be a hallmark of all of Kensington School.

BRITISH MULTILINGUAL SCHOOL FOR A HAPPY, WELL-BALANCED LIFE

BRITISH & FAMILIAR SCHOOL

Kensington School is a British school with a strong family ethos.  A school which was founded with a handful of pupils and yet has grown thanks to the enthusiasm that families and pupils have poured into our education programme. Our wealth of experience, the combination of tradition and innovation and the commitment of our teaching staff have all contributed to the growth of the school. When a new pupil begins at Kensington School, they start a new adventure where the priorities are their wellbeing, their well-rounded education, academic excellence and the learning of languages.  With these tools, they have everything they need to adapt to a global and changing world, where they will be able to pay on the kindness they have received and the commitment that they have internalised from their early childhood.
