Secondary Education Following the British Curriculum in Pozuelo

In the first three years of Secondary school, students follow the English National Curriculum, leading to a choice at the end of Year 9 between continuing studies in English through the IGCSEs (International General Certificate of Secondary Education), or switching to studies in Spanish following the programmes of the LOMLOE (Spanish education system). By offering this choice, learners may select the best path to excellence for them to achieve their future goals.

The two secondary curriculum routes are based on two different educational systems. Both curriculum pathways are of a high standard, and excellence is the goal for our students whichever system they choose.

Secondary Programme

Year 7 to Year 9

In Our Secondary School, we promote a forward-focused, working environment to maximise the potential of each student. With emphasis on a cooperative approach to learning, the objective is to offer a broad programme through the English National Curriculum, which supports the academic and personal development of each student to enable them to make the most of their skills.

Year 10 and 11 in English (IGCSE)

After students finish Year 9, they may continue studying in English in Year 10 and 11. They will study the internationally-recognised programme of IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) while maintaining a proficient level of Spanish studies as one would expect in to ensure a balanced education programme. Alternatively, they may instead opt to study 3º y 4º de ESO in Spanish, with English and French taught intensively by native teachers, leading to qualifications in First Certificate and Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English, or the DELF B1 and B2 in French.

3º-4º ESO Pathway (Y10-11)

Secondary learners may choose to study 3º and 4º ESO (Year 10 and Year 11) following the official Spanish curriculum. If they choose this option, they will study languages with native teachers who are familiar with training entrants for the prestigious First Certificate and Certificate in Advanced English examinations.

Our large trajectory of success in secondary language education guarantees this quality of this pathway. Learners receive excellent specialised tuition to guide them in their pre-university studies with fluent use of the Spanish Language.

French

At Kensington, French lessons are taught using foreign language teaching methodology which takes into account the technique outlined by the official DELF examinations guidelines, for which our secondary teachers are official examiners. Secondary pupils work on developing their French speaking ability, analysing the news and working with documentation and realia.

From Year 7 to 4º ESO, or Year 11, regardless of the system they choose, students prepare for the French IGCSE. In addition, National Baccalaureate candidates have the option of sitting the French DELF B1 exam, enabling access to an erasmus and B2 scholarship, while also supporting their applications to French universities.
