Bilingual Education at Kensington: Up to 4 Language Options

Our school provides students with meaningful opportunities to develop their academic, athletic and artistic capabilities so that they can become well-rounded and confident individuals and competent language users. Children of all ages are supported as they gain fluency and build upon their social, emotional, digital abilities, which will expand their horizons beyond school.

Across each of our academic divisions, children receive an excellent bilingual Spanish and English language tuition while studying some of the most respected curriculums in the world. In Year 7, students demonstrate the use of Spanish, French and English in their lessons, and as they progress through school they may extend their language education with Mandarin tuition delivered by passionate, knowledgeable and caring teachers.

British System, Spanish System and IB Certified School

Our curriculum is exclusive, complete and effective. We combine the best of the British system with the best of the Spanish system. Pupils study the English National Curriculum from pre-nursery to Year 11, while Spanish Language and Literature and Social Studies lessons are taught solely in Spanish. From Year 9, students may decide to opt into the Spanish Curriculum for the 3rd year of secondary school to the 2nd year of the National Baccalaureate. Pupils continue to study English and French intensively with native teachers, obtaining internationally-recognised qualifications (Cambridge and DELF /IGCSE).

As such, when they complete their secondary education they are able to work fluently in three languages and meet the requirements to study in any university in Spain or overseas.

We are Committed to Innovation

The Kagan Collaborative Learning approach is applied throughout the school. Each pupil learns in a different way and in this approach, they help their classmates and are helped in turn. Children play different roles in work groups and receive support according to the level of their maturity allowing them to be coaches, communicate with their peers and explain their understanding.

Teachers can quickly identify the learners making an effort and those that may need further support, as they are able to monitor learning during this process. The objective of Kagan methodologies is to allow pupils to grow as active learners who are responsible for their own learning. Children learn effectively when teaching and listening to their classmates as they share logic and language therefore, they tend to respond well to student-let support.

Students may study Oratory and Emotional Intelligence as electives from ESO 3rd to Bach 1st, and Year 7 to Year 9.

Our Teaching Staff

Our school offers a variety of teaching methods to cater for the different ways pupils learn. A characteristic of Kensington is the freedom given to teachers to look for, and develop, appropriate ways of teaching for the specific needs of their classes. Students adapt to teaching techniques of their educators, which effectively prepares them for the continuous change that they are faced with when they leave the classroom. Faculty members enjoy ongoing professional development and are embolden in their profession with programmes including Doug Lemov’s ‘Teach Like a Champion’, in which they gain an understanding of how different techniques can be applied in different situations.

We aim to support our dedicated specialist team with innovative practices in coaching and group planning: when our professional staff acquires new skills and personalises them for the benefit of our students, the entire school community wins.
